people who exercise often should eat MORE antioxidants?! 😦 even though exercising is very healthy and lowers the risk for diseases, it is known to cause inflammation, and said to cause oxidative stress (although research goes back and forth with this one) antioxidants can PROTECT your body from oxidative stress and reduce inflammation. ✨there are many different antioxidants with different functions IN MY BOWL 🤩 I mean, look at those COLORS. •raspberries - MY FAV FRUIT. vitamin c, flavanoids (fight free radicals, reduce inflammation, may reduce risk of neurological diseases and prevent infections) •cherries 🍒- beta carotene, vitamin c, and high in polyphenols (may reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and fight cellular damage, & protect against chronic diseases) •blueberries - anthocyanin, vitamin c, manganese (which is a superoxide dismutase 🤯 A WHAT?! basically, it’s a super hero that helps reduce damage to your cells) •cocoa @badabeansnacks 🍫 since the cocoa on these is dutched cocoa, the antioxidant capacity may be reduced some (but still tastes bomb). raw cacao and natural cocoa powders contain the highest level of procyanidins it’s more than just macros. more than just micros. 95% of us would probably benefit from eating more fruits & veggies and a wider variety of foods. also, reduced inflammation = better recovery + better performance 💪🏼 p.s. some other things that can cause oxidative stress: alcohol, drugs, radiation, air pollutants, smoking, viruses, certain foods. so we need antioxidants for these too!
